Guardian Homes

Guardian Homes are a great opportunity for the right family. We use guardian homes so that I can further my breeding program without having too many dogs at my own home.  Guardianships enable breeding dogs to live one on one with a family while they are participating in my program.  They are loved and cared for by the same family they will be living with when they retire. Guardian Dogs are placed with a chosen family at NO COST.

Female guardian dogs are under contract for 4 litters, or until 5 years old, whichever come first.  We usually will breed them back to back twice so they may retire early, unless our vet recommends differently or timing doesn't work out for us (overlapping litters, etc).  

The contract may be shortened if we decide no more litters are desired out of the girl.  Guardians of females are required to alert me to when their girl is coming into season, and make her available to me for the breeding process.

Provide the dog with a safe and loving home, including but not limited to:

• A fenced-in yard
• Provide adequate exercise for the dog
• Train the dog on basic commands (sit, stay, wait, etc.) or attend obedience classes
• Feeding the dog an approved diet
• Do not allow him/her to become overweight/underweight
• Keep dog socialized with dogs and people of different ages and sizes
• Keep the dog clean and well-groomed
• Yearly wellness visits and vaccines
• Keeping dog on monthly, year-round preventative medications against heart worms, fleas and ticks
• Must not have any other intact dogs for the entire duration of the guardian contract.  Spayed or neutered pets are fine.
• Must be a non smoking home only
• Must live within 2-3 hours driving distance from us.

• Provide guardian with a healthy dog.
• Pay any veterinary costs associated with breeding, including but not limited to:
  • Progesterone testing
  • Cytologies
  • Ultrasounds/Radiographs
  • Necessary health testing
• Spay or neuter the dog when they are deemed no longer needed for breeding, be it because of age or health standards required for breeding.
• Provide lifetime support for the dog.
• Assist guardian with detecting and caring for a female dog in estrus cycle or pregnant.
• If dog is deemed by breeder to be unfit to reproduce, the dog will then be spayed or neutered at the expense of the breeder and awarded to the guardian home.
